• Hospital readmissions may result in various negative consequences including medical errors, emotional strain on the patient, and excessive medical costs.
• In 2020, Rhode Island’s rate of 30-day hospital readmissions among Medicare beneficiaries decreased sharply from 2019 to 2020 but that trend was also seen in the national average. In 2021, the rate remained about the same as 2020 and Rhode Island remains above the national average for this measure.
