Underinsured
Percentage of the population who are underinsured

About this data measure
- People who are “underinsured” have high health plan deductibles and out-of-pocket medical expenses relative to their income and are more likely to struggle paying medical bills or to skip care because of cost. (Source: Commonwealth Fund)
- Although Rhode Island saw a decrease in 2020 for underinsured adults aged 19 to 64, Rhode Island remains well above the national rate of underinsured.
- Low income Rhode Islanders and those aged 18 to 25 have much higher underinsured rates than other groups.
