About this data measure

  • Nursing homes have, and continue toward, reducing antipsychotic use in response to increasing evidence of the marginal benefits and potential adverse effects. (Source: CMS)
  • While the percent of nursing home long-stay residents in Rhode Island who got an antipsychotic medication declined from 2017 to mid-2020, since mid-2020 the use of antipsychotic medications has increased to a level above what was seen in 2017. Rhode Island has remained above the national average throughout this time period.
