About this data measure
- Infant mortality is the death of an infant before his or her first birthday and is considered an important indicator of the health of the broader community. (Source: CDC)
- Since 2017, the rate of infant mortality has steadily declined in Rhode Island.
- The data on Black Rhode Islanders has been suppressed for 2021 and 2022. Historically, the infant mortality rate within this population has been significantly higher compared to other racial groups. The current data shows Hispanic Rhode Islanders to have double the rate of infant deaths than white Rhode Islanders.
